Group Brings Top Technical Talent Into Public Service

Overview:
CMP managed a three-day meeting for the United States Digital Service 
(USDS) at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Maryland.
The USDS was founded by President Obama in August of 2014. The goal was to bring together the best technology, design, and government talent to “deliver better government services to the American people through technology and design.”
This meeting was attended by over 150 USDS staff from across the country, and included a mix of plenary and breakout sessions. We hired a facilitator who kept things lively while also interspersing small group activities and role playing. The USDS “fun committee” coordinated social activities to maintain the team building momentum in the evenings.

CMP Value Added:
During the planning of this meeting, we were faced with a government shut-down which resulted in having to postpone the meeting just two days before it was to begin. We were able to negotiate with the hotel to find a new date for the program while maintaining the same meeting space, guest room, and facility needs.
Because the hotel was remote, motor coach transportation was arranged so that attendees could arrive together. To avoid long lines at the hotel registration desk, we distributed guest room keys and registration packets at our own registration desk. This saved time and allowed the attendees to jump right into the meeting activities. Many of the attendees were meeting each other in person for the first time, so it was important to develop a program with a balance of educational and team building events.
